Markowitz Herbold Ranked Among the Top for Litigation in Oregon

June 03, 2014

For the tenth consecutive year, Chambers USA Client’s Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business has ranked Markowitz Herbold PC one of the top commercial litigation firms in Oregon, awarding it a “Band 1” placement.

Shareholder David Markowitz was one of a small number of lawyers in the U.S. who obtained a “Star Performer” classification for general commercial litigation. According to Chambers USA, the star category is reserved for those individuals who have received exceptional recommendations by their peers and clients. Shareholders Peter Glade, Renée Rothauge and Kerry Shepherd were recognized as leaders in their field.

Here’s what Chambers USA says about Markowitz Herbold’s ranked attorneys:

  • David Markowitz is universally respected by both peers and clients, and is described by one source as the "finest trial attorney in Portland." He works on large, complex matters, including legal malpractice, contract and leasing disputes. One commentator observes that "he demonstrates a level of knowledge and gravitas that commands the respect of the court and opposing counsel."
  • Peter Glade has over 30 years' experience as a litigator and has worked on an array of cases, particularly those involving securities and breach of trust. One impressed commentator calls him "an outstanding lawyer."
  • Renée Rothauge divides her time between sophisticated business disputes and IP litigation. Sources describe her as "an effective litigator," and praise her "very thorough and diligent" approach.
  • Kerry Shepherd has recently played a key role in representing law firms in complex legal malpractice suits. According to sources, one of his key strengths is his ability to "discover the weakness in the opposing counsel's case and explain that weakness."

The Chambers USA directory rates law firms and leading lawyers across the U.S. More than 14,000 in-depth interviews with lawyers and clients were conducted in order to compile the rankings. The qualities on which rankings are assessed include technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence, commitment, and other qualities most valued by clients.
