Portland business litigation firm Markowitz Herbold PC announced today that Katherine (Kate) Acosta and Vivek Kothari have joined the firm as associates.
Acosta focuses her practice on complex business litigation, with a specialty in employment disputes. Prior to joining the firm, she was an associate at a full-service Northwest law firm.
Acosta served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Ann Aiken, then Chief Judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, while in law school. As a law student, she clerked for the Oregon Department of Justice’s Special Litigation Unit where she assisted with specialized cases, including high-profile Constitutional challenges, complex regulatory cases, and environmental litigation.
Kothari has extensive civil and criminal experience in courts across the country. A former federal prosecutor in Atlanta, he has prosecuted computer crimes, public corruption, fraud, money laundering, and trans-national organized crime. Before that, he practiced at the Washington D.C. law firm of WilmerHale where he provided regulatory guidance, compliance advice, and representation for clients dealing with government and internal investigations and complex civil litigation.
Kothari clerked in the Southern District of New York, handling securities litigation related to Moody's role in the financial crisis.
