David Schleiffers

Before joining Markowitz Herbold, David served for two years as a Judicial Law Clerk for Judge B. Yohalem of the New Mexico Court of Appeals, where he researched civil and criminal issues of law and drafted written orders and opinions. His clerkship deepened his appellate skills and gave him firsthand insight into the standards that courts apply when evaluating arguments and written advocacy.

Prior to his clerkship, David gained broad litigation experience across several roles. As a 2L Summer Associate and Diversity Fellow at a large national firm, he drafted board and stockholder resolutions, composed memoranda on complex business litigation matters, and contributed to the firm's pro bono appellate team. He also served as an Appellate Court Extern with the Oregon Office of the Appellate Commissioner where he drafted recommendation memoranda and orders for the Oregon Court of Appeals. 

David earned his J.D. magna cum laude from Willamette University College of Law, graduating in the top seven percent of his class. He holds a Certificate in Law and Business and was recognized with the Order of the Barristers Award and the Bruce Spaulding Award for Trial Advocacy. He served as a Source and Citation Editor for the Willamette Law Review and authored a note on antitrust law and the live music industry. He also served as an Executive Board Member of the Student Bar Association and a Board Member of Moot Court.

David received his B.A. in Dance from the University of Washington, where he graduated on the Dean's List and received the Dean of the Arts Scholarship. Prior to law school, David was a professional modern dancer and he still enjoys taking dance classes in Portland.
