Design, Construction and Legal Industries Come Together to Remodel CourtCare

June 8, 2011

Multnomah CourtCare, a free drop-in child care center in the Multnomah County Courthouse, is a project of the Multnomah Bar Association. It provides child care at no cost to families who must go to court. Operated by Volunteers of America Oregon for the MBA, it serves 80 to 100 children and their families every month.

The existing CourtCare facility was in need of a remodel in order to make the space more accessible and hospitable for the children it serves.

“This renovation has been in the planning stages for several years. To see it come together so beautifully, due to the dedication and hard work of companies such as Yost Grube Hall and Howard S Wright, is amazing,” says Mary Rower, paralegal at Markowitz, Herbold, Glade & Mehlhaf and the project’s organizer.

Other generous donors include Uncommon Cabinetry, Cochran Broadway Electric, Contract Flooring Consultants, Don Herbst Painting, Fred Shearer & Sons, Power Plumbing, Rose City Cabinets and Kari Dunham, mural artist.

Markowitz, Herbold came up with the idea to renovate the CourtCare space on the firm’s 25th anniversary in 2008 as a way to give back to the community. The firm has contributed much of the hard costs for the remodel, however approximately $10,000 still needs to be raised.  For information on how to contribute, contact Mary Rower at 503-295-3085 or email her at MaryRower@MHGM.com.
