Law firm clients understandably get frustrated when their lawyers respond to seemingly straightforward questions with, “Well, it depends.”

Unfortunately, that kind of response might become even more common for a little while. As anybody practicing law at a business firm during the COVID-19 shutdown can tell you, they’re receiving a whole lot of phone calls these days from clients about how to navigate their contracts: “How will banks treat our covenants if the coronavirus stops our revenue stream?” “Can we still hold our customers responsible for their payment obligations?” “Will our insurance carrier cover us under our business interruption policy?”
