A U.S. District Court Judge on Monday set aside his previous ruling allowing the government of Malawi to seek information from a Vancouver company in connection with an investigation into a mining company's alleged gem smuggling.

The latest ruling from U.S. District Judge David Estudillo essentially means the African republic’s lawsuit is dismissed, though it could be appealed, said Chad Colton of Markowitz Herbold, the lead attorney for Columbia Gem House, the suit's defendant. Other Markowitz Herbold attorneys involved include Josephine Kovacs and Stephen Deatherage.
