Shelby is a skilled litigator who thrives under pressure and excels at thinking on her feet—whether in the courtroom, at the negotiating table, or during high-stakes depositions.

She applies her strong background in intellectual property and technology to a broad range of complex commercial matters.

Her experience includes successfully arguing dispositive and non-dispositive motions in federal court, as well as managing all phases of fact and expert discovery, ranging from written discovery to taking and defending depositions. Shelby also has experience examining and cross-examining fact and expert witnesses in arbitration hearings.

Prior to joining the Markowitz Herbold team, Shelby litigated patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets at a boutique intellectual property law firm. She previously clerked for the Oregon Court of Appeals and interned with the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. More recently, Shelby volunteered with the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, where she tried several misdemeanor cases. In that role, she conducted voir dire, delivered opening and closing statements, and examined and cross-examined witnesses.
